GiGi’s Playhouse was founded to reshape how society perceives Down syndrome, promoting acceptance and inclusion for all. From the moment of a Down syndrome diagnosis, families are met with unwavering support at GiGi’s Playhouse, whether through prenatal guidance or career development assistance. GiGi’s holistic approach empowers families to nurture their children's full potential.

This vision began with Nancy Gianni, a mother who saw the limitless possibilities in her daughter, GiGi. Determined to create a world where her daughter was fully included, Nancy’s efforts became a global acceptance movement. Today, GiGi’s Playhouse celebrates the unique abilities of every individual, fostering a culture of understanding and empowerment.

Since its founding in 2018, GiGi’s Playhouse San Diego has been a beacon of hope, working tirelessly to change how the world views Down syndrome. Its programs are carefully designed to meet the educational, therapeutic, and career development needs of individuals with Down syndrome, their families, and the broader San Diego community. With research-based and developmentally appropriate programs offered free of charge, GiGi’s ensures access for all through in-person or virtual platforms.

The Foundation for Developmental Disabilities (FDD) proudly supports GiGi’s mission. FDD-allocated funds help sustain crucial programs by providing resources for fitness equipment, art supplies, music therapy, tutoring, and more. These contributions ensure that GiGi’s Playhouse continues to foster an inclusive world where everyone is valued.

GiGi’s Playhouse does more than offer programs—it addresses the systemic barriers that individuals with Down syndrome often face due to outdated stereotypes and misconceptions. Programs like literacy tutoring, cooking classes, karate, and career skill development are designed to empower participants and build essential academic, motor, and communication skills. These efforts equip individuals to succeed in school or work, advocate for themselves, and gain the confidence needed for independent living.

GiGi’s Playhouse San Diego thrives as a community-driven initiative where families, participants, and volunteers unite to celebrate the unique strengths of individuals with Down syndrome.

As Rachany, a GiGi’s Playhouse parent and volunteer, reflects: “GiGi’s Playhouse has helped myself and my family even before opening its doors in San Diego. Being a new mom to my son, who has Down syndrome, was overwhelming. However, once I started volunteering, I met so many wonderful families that have become lifelong friends for me and my son. They encouraged us and empowered us to never stop believing in ourselves!”
