St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center (SMSC) is a pivotal hub for individuals with developmental disabilities, their families, and the broader community. It provides an environment that encourages exploration, growth, and realizing their potential. It offers abundant opportunities for a vibrant and enriched life.
The Center extends programs tailored for adults with developmental disabilities, such as Autism, Down Syndrome, and Cerebral Palsy. SMSC's core mission revolves around educating and empowering individuals with developmental disabilities to actualize their full potential. Their approach seamlessly intertwines compassionate care and innovative strategies to offer exceptional programs encompassing practical skill development, employment pathways, and the assurance of lifelong dignity.
At the heart of SMSC lies its all-encompassing "Life Program," designed to continually empower students in their learning journey, fostering connections and engagement in social activities that span their lives. Each day, a diverse cohort—from recent high-school graduates to seniors in their 80s—gathers on SMSC's extensive six-acre campus in the El Cajon foothills of California. Here, students refine marketable skills in culinary arts, janitorial work, and technology, explore various creative outlets, earn a living, cultivate new relationships, and nurture an unwavering sense of independence and self-value. This comprehensive "Life Program" epitomizes inclusivity, catering to learners across generations and enabling continuous growth and fulfillment.
“St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center prides itself in offering quality and unique program opportunities for our students, which develops their skills to meet their future goals and dreams in the future!”
- Debra Emerson, St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center CEO
In recognition of St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center's unwavering commitment to providing exceptional services and programs for adults with developmental disabilities, nurturing their journey toward a fulfilling life, the Foundation for Developmental Disabilities (FDD) generously offered a $9,000 donation. This contribution was specifically designated to assist in acquiring a chair lift for their aquatic center, aimed at enhancing accessibility and providing increased support for the individuals benefiting from their valuable services.
