For over thirty years, the Foundation for Developmental Disabilities (FDD) has supported individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs) and their families in San Diego and Imperial County. FDD has played a pivotal role in driving positive change and creating opportunities for those in need through unwavering dedication to inclusivity and empowerment.

At the core of FDD's mission is the shaping of services for individuals with IDDs, leaving a lasting impact that enriches countless lives within the community. A shining example of this support is the annual FDD Adopt-a-Family Holiday event, a cherished tradition held each holiday season.

While the holiday season typically evokes feelings of family, warmth, and joy, it's crucial to acknowledge and assist those facing hardships. For some families served by the San Diego Regional Center (SDRC), the holidays can bring daunting challenges, often forcing difficult decisions between meeting basic needs and enjoying the season's simple pleasures.

In response to this need, FDD's Adopt-a-Family program shines as a beacon of compassion and generosity. Crafted to aid SDRC clients lacking family support or grappling with severe hardship, the Adopt-a-Family initiative embodies the essence of community and togetherness.

Through this program, FDD extends a lifeline to eligible SDRC clients during the holiday season. By providing $100 gift cards, FDD offers tangible assistance and symbolizes hope, empowering families to partake in holiday festivities and create cherished memories together.

This initiative encapsulates FDD's overarching mission of fostering a more inclusive and supportive community. By helping during the holiday season, FDD spreads joy and cheer while reaffirming its commitment to uplifting individuals and families facing adversity.

In 2023 alone, FDD's Adopt-a-Family program significantly supported 136 families, totaling almost $12,000 in support. These numbers underscore the program's effectiveness in assisting those in need, ensuring families can experience the warmth and joy of the holiday season.

This serves as a reminder of the invaluable work of organizations like the Foundation for Developmental Disabilities. Together, through acts of kindness and solidarity, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those facing challenges, fostering a community where everyone feels valued, supported, and included.
